Young Black & Deadly talent quests return

2 August 2015

Do you know of a young Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person with an interest in music and performance? If you do, make sure to let them know about the up and coming Young Black & Deadly Rising Star talent quests taking place across Sydney during the September/October school holidays.

The Young Black and Deadly Rising Star Development Program (YBD) provides performance and music industry training workshops for 12 selected Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander  people between 13 and 18 years of age.

Workshops culminate with the recording of an EP, written, performed and produced by participants with the guidance of YBD mentors, as well as an EP launch at Klub Koori Carriageworks in 2016.

Workshops consist of seven day-long seminars to be held at the Gadigal music studios over a three month period in 2016. The objectives of the intensive workshop period are to develop and enhance performance skills and techniques, provide motoring and advice on career pathways and build self esteem, confidence and contacts within the music industry.

The 12 participants will be selected during the YBD Rising Star talent quests taking place during the 2015 September/October school holidays. Talent quests are being held in partnership with the Blacktown Arts Centre, Tharawal Aboriginal Corporation,  La Perouse Youth Haven and La Perouse Land Council.

Rising Star talent quests commence with guided rehearsals followed by a community performance later in the day. Mentors will be present throughout the day to assist with performance preparation. There will also be a free BBQ at each event.

Come along, show your talent, and gain some valuable coaching and performance experience!
