Klub Koori – Newtown Social Club – June 26

19 June 2016

Klub Koori returns on Sunday June 26th at the Newtown Social Club for another big night of Aboriginal music and celebration. Featured as part of the annual Marrickville Open Festival, Klub Koori will present live performances from Indigenous artists Bow & Arrow and Philly. The night will be hosted by hip hop artist and freestyle rapper, MC Izzy.

Klub Koori is Sydney’s longest running Indigenous music concert series. The event showcases the talents of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performing artists, also providing a platform for young and emerging Indigenous artists. Klub Koori is held in venues across the Sydney region and is a highly anticipated event on Sydney’s Aboriginal social calendar. The event draws a diverse crowd and is renowned for its vibrant lineup of performers and community party atmosphere.

Bow and Arrow are husband and wife duo Mindy Jane and Mitchell Kwanten, who met while studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The duo perform a one of a kind mix of electro-soul, and released their debut EP ‘Return To Me’ in April 2011, a creative expression composed, recorded, mixed, designed, pressed and sold all in one week. Bow and Arrow recently released a remix of UNKLE’s ‘Money and Run’ featuring Nick Cave.

Influenced by his older brother’s hip hop collection, Philly began rapping and writing rhymes at a young age in his hometown of Mildura. In 2010 he won the National Noel Tovey Achievement Award and became Mildura’s NAIDOC Artist of the Year. Now signed to Payback Records, in 2015 Philly was the winner of the National Indigenous Music Award ‘New Talent of the Year’ category, and released his first E.P titled ‘Dreamchaser’.
